Alpine or western paintbrush, Castilleja occidentalis, Independence Pass, Pitkin County, Colorado. While usually very pale yellow, the flower-like bracts can sometimes be suffused with pink or purple. Grows in alpine regions of the Rocky Mountains from Canada south to CO, NM and UT.
