Victoria giant waterlily, Victoria amazonica, in flower in the Amazon River, Loreto, Peru. This is the largest of all the waterlilies, with leaves that can reach over 8' across. The flower attracts a scarab beetle (Cyclocephala castanea), then it closes, with the beetle trapped inside. The flower then produces pollen, and releases the pollen-covered beetle the next day to pollinate more flowers.
