Convallaria majalis, commonly known as the Lily of the Valley, is a sweetly scented (and highly poisonous) woodland flowering plant that is native throughout the cool temperate Northern Hemisphere in Asia, Europe and in the southern Appalachian Mountains in the United States. The botanical definition of a berry is a fleshy fruit produced from a single ovary. The berry is the most common type of fleshy fruit in which the entire ovary wall ripens into an edible pericarp. In everyday English, berry is a term for any small edible fruit.
