Female marijuana plant in flower. It is generally assumed there are 2 species, Cannabis indica and C. sativa. C. sativa is a taller plant. The related C. indica is a shorter plant with broader leaflets. Both are native to Asia and and long cultivated as a source of industrial fibre (hemp), seed oil, as a drug, medicine, and as a spiritual tool. These have been cross bred so much that it is now difficult to determine the actual species. To complicate this many taxonomists feel they are just varieties of the same species. The plant on photo resembles C. indica.
