Crystalline iceplant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum), an annual succulent entirely covered in transparent shining bumps, is known to add salt to the surrounding soil preventing other plants from germinating in it's place. The flowers are white or tinged rose, while the green wavy leaves redden as they age. It blooms from march to October, and can be found on Santa Barbara and all four northern Channel Islands.
