The Mile-a-Minute Vine (Polygonum perfoliatum) is an invasive weed that was first introduced into the United States in 1890. It escaped from cultivation in the 1930's from a site in York County, Pennsylvania and has since spread to Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, New York, Virginia, Ohio, and Washington D.C. This plant was photographed on the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in New York State.
