Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph of a band aid absorbent pad. The featureless, orange layer with many triangular holes is the non-absorbent film which prevents the pad from sticking to a wound. The convoluted, wire-like strands seen through the holes are the fibers that make the band aid pad absorbant. The long side of each triangular hole is approximately 400 microns in length, which is about the length of a grain of table salt. Magnification: 120X at 8x10".
