Blood cells in the prophase of mitosis. Centrioles separate developing astral rays (microtubules) and move to opposite poles of the cell. The spindle of microtubules develops between the centrioles. Chromosomes then divide longitudinally into chromatid pairs and become arranged equatorially. Magnification 400x @ 35mm.
