William Peck (January 3, 1862 - March 7, 1925) was a Scottish astronomer and scientific instrument maker. He was the director of the Edinburgh City Observatory from 1889 until his death. This image appeared in his "Popular Handbook and Atlas of Astronomy" (1890). The Southern Celestial Hemisphere or the Southern Sky, is part of a rotating astronomical region in the sky. For the purpose of celestial mapping, the sky is considered by astronomers as the inside of a sphere divided in two halves by the celestial equator. The Southern Sky is therefore that half of the celestial sphere that is south of the celestial equator.
