Watercolor drawing of the front of the abdomen of a woman aged 36, suffering from dermatitis herpetiformis. Drawing shows a number of small shallow ulcers covered by yellowish crusts, and scattered irregularly over the skin. They are rather more numerous on the right side than on the left, but occur on both sides of the middle line. Leonard Mark, 1892. Dermatitis herpetiformis, or Duhring's disease, is a chronic blistering skin condition characterised by blisters filled with a watery fluid. Despite its name, DH is neither related to nor caused by herpes virus: the name means that it is a skin inflammation having an appearance similar to herpes.
