A utopia is a community or society possessing highly desirable or perfect qualities. The word was coined in Greek by Sir Thomas More for his 1516 book Utopia, describing a fictional island society in the Atlantic Ocean. The term has been used to describe both intentional communities that attempt to create an ideal society, and fictional societies portrayed in literature. Scientific and technological utopias are set in the future, when it is believed that advanced science and technology will allow utopian living standards. A a society where humans have struck a balance with technology and it is merely used to enhance the human living condition.
