At the controls of Chicago Pile-3 in 1954. Fred Cokeing, pile operator with the longest experience at the lab, operates the controls as CP-3 makes its last irradiation. The Laboratory Director (Walter Zinn), who first made this machine critical May 15, 1944, presses the button which closes it down for good. Argonne National Laboratory.
