Dorothea Klumpke Roberts (1861-1942) was an American astronomer working in France. In 1889, she became the first recipient of an award, the Prix de Dames, from the Societie des Astronomique de France. In 1893, she was made an Officier d'Academe of the Paris Academy of Sciences. Both honors were a first for a woman. In 1891, in spite of being a foreigner and a woman, Dorothea beat out 50 men for the post as Director of the Bureau of Measurements at the Paris Observatory. She died in1942, having been in poor health for a number of years. She was 81 years old.
