Entitled: "Grammatica os tenerum pueri, balbum que figurat, scientiarum ceterarum ianitrix" print created by Cornelis Cort, 1565. A winged woman (Urania) stands in the center, gesturing with her right arm towards the sky, and leaning her left on a large globe covered with depictions of the constellations. Stars encircle her head and she wears a breastplate decorated with a sun, moon and stars. A man to her left is leaning with both hands on the globe. Books and astrological tools are on the ground at her feet. To her right are a peacock and an eagle, and the arched entryway to a city is visible in the background. In Greek mythology, Urania was the Muse of astronomy. She is often associated with Universal Love and the Holy Spirit. Eldest of the divine sisters, Urania inherited Zeus' majesty and power and the beauty and grace of her mother Mnemosyne. Those who are most concerned with philosophy and the heavens are dearest to her.
