Kilauea , a perfect Shield Volcano in Hawaii , is the most active volcano known to mankind on Earth. Over 50 fluid basalt eruptions have occurred since the 1800's. More than 180 homes have been buried under lava flows from Kilauea. In the foreground a coconut tree is illuminated by sunbeams at sunset. That tree was eventually engulfed and destroyed in this lava flow. Photo Lava flows entering the ocean at Kalapana in July 1990.
