Geological marker located on the top of Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. The marker is used to determine the exact position and height of landforms. Geological markers are also important references to measure erosion or other changes in the landscape. Most markers are made from brass that is resistant to corrosion. Stone mountain is an example of the exposed granite that makes up the Appalachian mountain range.
