Aurora borealis in the skies of eastern Boise, Idaho following an unusually intense solar storm. Also called the Northern Lights, these displays are the result of charged particles from the solar wind interacting with the earth's magnetic field. Though generally associated with the polar regions, these displays are less often visible at lower latitudes.
