The Brownsnout Spookfish (Dolichopteryx longipes) has four eyes. Each "eye is divided into two corneal openings, one looking outward, the other upward. These fish also use both utilizes both refractive and reflective optics in its visual system. These fish eat small crustaceans including copepods. They produce planktonic larvae. The species has been captured to depths of 2,400 meters; this individual was trawled from between 200 and 600m depth, Gulf of Mexico, August 2016. Image courtesy of the DEEPEND project.
