Pichi or Dwarf Armadillo, Zaedyus pichiy, inhabits grasslands and "Pampas." This relatively smaller armadillo ranges from central and southern Argentina west through Chile and south to the Strait of Magellan. The Pichi digs burrows and forages primarily after dark but occasionally during the day. The diet is broad and these animals will eat any small invertebrate or vertebrate they can catch as well as eating carrion. The species is sought after as a food item for some Amerindian cultures.
