Dragon mantid, Stenophylla cornigera, in defensive posture. This rather small mantid resembles a bit of decayed vegetaion and is supurbly camouflaged when resting among dead leaves. It is less than 2 inches long. When threatened it has a striking display posture, elevating its wings and extending its first pair of legs. Photographed in the northern Peruvian Amazon Basin
