Brown Garden Eel, (Heteroconger longissimus); can grow to 50cm (20in). Common in the Caribbean. They live in colonies at current-swept areas, often on sand plains. The body projects from the sand and sways with the current as it snaps up plankton. They are very sensitive to pressure and retreat quickly into their burrow if frightened. Photographed in Grand Cayman.
