Hookers sea lion (Phocarctos hookeri) holding its front flipper in the air on a beach in Serat Bay, Catlins, South Island, New Zealand. This is one of the rarest and most endangered species of sea lions, which were hunted for their oil and hides until hunting was banned in 1893.
