Liberty and Co department store, Regent Street, London, 1924. Exterior view showing the Great Marlborough Street facade of Liberty's newly completed Arts and Crafts Tudor style department store. Designed by Edwin T Hall and E Stanley Hall, this extraordinary building was constructed in 1922-1924 using timbers from HMS 'Hindustan' and HMS 'Impregnable'. It was a remarkable reaction to the early 20th century vogue for stone dressed steel-framed buildings. This photograph was commissioned by Higgs and Hill, builders.
