_011_ Edict on Maximum Prices#EM10029-31Edict on Maximum Prices [Edict Diocletian]"Edict Concerning the Sale Price of Goods"; issued in 301 by Roman Emperor Diocletian. in Greek The decree now exists only in fragments which give sufficient idea as to prices for goods and services for historical economists. The Maximum Prices... is still the longest surviving piece of legislation from 301 AD - Diocletian issued Currency Decrees; which attempted to reform the system of taxation and to stabilize the coinage. The Edict did not solve the problems in the economy. Diocletian's mass minting of coins of low value increased inflation;the Edict also set limits on wages; found that their money was increasingly worthless as the artificial prices did not reflect actual costs. Stabilized only until Constantine's coinage reforms in the 310s.found in Pelopennisos AigeiraIN THE PHOTO: THIS EPIGRAPHIC MUSEUM ATHENS
