ANESTHESIA The effects caused by nitrous oxide; also known as laughing gas; shown in a dissertation in medicine. Discovered in 1772 by Joseph Priestley; in the studies of Sir Humphry Davy (who was experiencing it upon himself to declare that its properties possessed all the benefits of alcohol while avoiding the defects); this compound was used as a factor to make the 'anesthesia.
