Many killed as trains crash in fog. From 15 to 20 people killed, and total casualties numbering 120 were reported. Went to southern railway trains, crashed in dense fog at 8:36 AM this morning, between Purley Oaks and South Croydon station on the up line. There was a blinding flash and grinding. Explosion as a train from Tattenham Corner ran into the rear of a train from Haywards Heath, Sussex, slowly probing its way through the fog towards South Croydon. The last two coaches of the Haywards Heath train were thrown off the rails and hung crazily at an angle of 45? the two leading coaches of the Tattenham Corner train were splintered and smashed and telescoped.
