Among the people to arrive in London by air from Australia were two men who hope to help out the rations in every home in Britain during the coming winter with the aid of food parcels. They are the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Ald. Reginald James Bartley and Mr H.Simpson, Secretary of the Lord Mayor's Food from Britain Appeal in New South Wales. Ald. Bartley is here to propose to the British government scheme to centralise all freight and food parcels, and establish a huge food pool and distribution centre in London. If this scheme works out, Australians will be able to send parcels here at a cost of less than one fifth of what they pay a present, and the guests will reach their destination in under three weeks. Under the plan, the parcels will be standardised and will contain enough food to cover points value for five months. Later it is hoped that this scheme will be adapted for clothing parcels also.
