These were several fires burning in City markets and streets today(Thursday) when attempts were begun to dispose of the rubbish which has accumulated since 1,000 cleaners stopped work in protest against the promotion of Billingsgate policeman. The mencace to the city's health by the decaying garbage is usch taht official dumps pn bomb sites will be started tomorrow if the strikers do not return to work. 8 May 1947
