Gutenburg Bible for sale. The only Gutenburg Bible in England still in private hands comes under the auctioneer's hammer at Sotheby's, London, tomorrow (Tuesday). It is one of the first issue of the first edition of the Bible and the first book ever to be printed with movable metal type. The Bible, which is from the Dyson Perrins collection, was printed in Mainz , about 1455, nine years after Gutenburg returned to the city and receive the financial support of goldsmith Johann Fust in the development of movable type and the general art of printing. The value of this particular example of the Gutenburg Bible is considerably enhanced because of its original Mainz binding of Brown calf over wooden boards. It is expected that the figure to be fetched by the sale of the Bible . Tomorrow will be a record one. Photo shows, the fine work of printing is shown by this page from the Gutenburg Bible, photographed at Sotheby's today, Monday. 10 March 1947
