Blessing the plough at Chichester Cathedral. The ancient ceremony of blessing the plough took place yesterday (Plough Sunday) at Chichester Cathedral when a plough was drawn in procession from the County Hall to the Cathedral. The plough was drawn by young farmers in knee length white coats with a ploughman at the stilts. In the Cathedral the plough was placed in front of the choir screen and the Bishop, Dr bell, preached a sermon. Farmers, workers and W L A members grouped themselves round the plough and the ploughman and the WLA representative invoked the Bishop's blessing. Photo shows, the Bishop of Chichester welcoming the plough on its arrival at the Cathedral. 14 January 1946
