Limbless pilot drives a car. 'Guinea pig' at a demonstration of special importance to limbless ex-servicemen held today (Wednesday) was Squadron Leader CGS Hodgkinson, DFC, formerly of the Fleet Air Arm, who took part in the Battle of Britain and after the loss of his legs fleet the RAF as a volunteer. Squadron Leader Hodgkinson was demonstrating the new equipment developed by the Rootes Group , which enables drivers fitted with artificial limbs to drive a car. These controls can be fitted to any current Hillman Minx or Sunbeam Talbot and make it possible nine types of amputees to drive a car efficiently. Photo shows, Squadron Leader Hodgkinson getting into a car fitted with a drivers seat mounted to give adjustment through a long travel seat slide.
