Moira Shearer steps into radio . The famous former ballerina Moira Shearer will be taking up our first full-time post for 30 years when she becomes Radio Three ' s newest announcer on New Year's Eve , Friday 31 December , 1982 . Moira start of a new career by reading the 4 . 55 news bulletin and in preparation for her debut she took a one-week course in microphone speech . 55-year-old Moira was born in Dunfermline , Scotland and joined the famous Sadlers Wells Ballet at the age of 16 after which she danced all the major classic roles and a full repertoire of revivals and new ballet . In 1948 , Moira launched her career as an actress with the films ' The Red Shoes ' and ' The Tales of Hoffman ' for which she is still fondly remembered . Now , Moira is married to the famous broadcaster Ludovic Kennedy and although she retired from ballet in the 1960 ' s she has been much in demand for lectures and has held positions with Border Television , Scottish Arts , and the BBC General Advisory Councils . As a true professional in every sense of the word , there's no doubt that Moira will find her latest career as a radio announcer a real ' walkover ! ' .
