Housewives leave their work to extinguish incendiaries. Housewives in a London suburb were startled by a sudden explosion when a lone German raider dropped a breadbasket filled with incendiaries. These women, many of whom were cooking their dinners, rushed out of their homes, unmindful of the danger they ran an extinguish the fire bombs with sand and stirrup pumps. They forced their way into our house to quell a file and in addition save the home of a newly married couple who were at the Savoy Hotel holding a reception when the firebombs were rained on their roof. After having dealt successfully with the firebombs the women returned calmly to their normal routine. Picture shows, Mrs H L Allan, with a stirrup pump that she operated while dealing with the firebombs. 22 January 1941
