The Architect responsible for Coventry's New Cathederal , Sir Basil Spence ( left ) points out architectural features of the Nuffield Theatre which he designed for the University of Southampton , which was shown to the press today . With him is the University Dierctor of Drama , Dr Richard Southern . The theatre stands in the centre of the University site , where its copper clad sides make a striking addition to the University buildings . The Nuffield foundation gave ?30,000 for the building of the theatre . 6th January 1963
