If it can be avoided, it is better not to send a pass staight to a player because he will probably be compleeld to stop the ball and bring it under control before he can proceed with it. Therefore the aim should be to make the pass into an open space so the player may run into it. Not only will this give him a chance of evading immediate tackle but will allow him to collect the ball while running. To make the move effective the direction of the pass must be anticipated and the player should have started to run into the open space before the ball is actually placed. Undated.
