Mrs Vera Stringer (29) watched by her son Steven (4) sweeps up after another visit from the poltergeist Larry to her London Peckham home. Ths ghostly pyromaniac sets objects on fire in the home of Graham Stringer, a freelance photographer, every year about this time. Scotland Yard were called in by firemen recently after Mrs Stringer reported that furniture in her living room on the first floor of a two family house had spontaneously erupted into flame in a matter of seconds from no visible cause. In three of the last four years, fires had broken out in the home always just before Easter and usually after the appearance of the ghost - a greyish fluorescent column of vibrating light - about the height of a man. The family did not have any fires last year because a Roman Catholic priest conducted a rite of exorcism. Mr Stringer explained somewhat diffidently that he and his wife had to give the ghost a name because their son kept pointing to the column of light and asking Who's that, Mummy? A famous British medium is going to hold a seance in the house later this month. One thing impressed Scotland Yard. The Stringer's have no fire insurance. - 10th April 1962
