HE Commands New 'Lightning' Squadron. Feb 2nd 1961 Squadron Leader John F. G. Howe, of South Africa, seated at the controls of a new English Electric Lightning all-weather single-seat aircraft of No. 74 Squadron, Royal Air Force Fighter Command at Coltishall, Norfolk. He has been the commander since February last year. No. 74 Sqn, known as Tiger Squadron because of its tiger face badge, is the first in Figher Command to be fully equiped with Lightnings.
