The first trams were horsedrawn, then they were drawn by steam - neither were saitsfactory. Electricity was first used in Blackpool, from an electrified rail; in Leeds in 1891 an overhead wire provided current and this became the almost universal system. Tram in Tyrrel Street, Bradford 1903
