Berkshire C.I.D. were called in today (Saturday) to investigate a fire which started in the early hours of this morning at Sunninghill Park the intended residence of H.R.H. Princess Elizabeth and lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, R.N. only one wing of the 25 room building escaped the flames after hours of fighting by brigades from six Berkshire and Surrey towns. The police are endeavouring to establish the cause of the fire; whether accidental, deliberately fired as a protest against restoration work going on or set on fire from political motives.
