Loch Ness, Scotland: Mr John Cobb, the fastest man on land, was killed today when his jet boat Crusader blew up and dived into Loch Ness, Scotland, as he attempted to capture the World water speed record. John Cobb, who was 52, was taken from the water alive, but died shortly afterwards of a broken neck. 29 September 1952
