Hunting a tiger in the Soviet jungle tracking down a farmer's arch enemy. These are the first pictures ever made of a tiger hunt in the jungles of the Pyaj River, which flows along the south-western borders of the Tajik Soviet republic and Central Asia. Tigers are the scourge of the borderland collective farms, attacking both travellers and livestock. When a tiger is discovered, border guards and farmers organise a hunt immediately. The beast is skilfully tracked down through the dense undergrowth, surrounded and shot. Photo shows, border guards, aided by Tajik collective farmers, tracking their cable out the rushes of the Ryanj River. 23 may 1937
