Small hand-plucked lute. The origins of this instrument are in the "qanbus" of the Arabic peninsula; an instrument that travelled with the Arab sailors to East Africa and South East Asia. The body and the neck are made of a single piece of wood; hollowed out. The sounding box is covered with hide and a mirror is embedded at the top of the pegbox. Country of Origin: Tanzania.
