Research into the effects of radiation on materials is carried out in the High Activity Handling Building. The work is done in cells which have protective walls of concrete 5ft 6 inches thick using remote manipulators and remotely controlled machines. Operations are watched through large windows also 5 ft 6 inches thick which are glass fronted tanks filled with zinc bromide solution. A maintenance mechanic in protective clothing adjusting equipment in a highly active cell. The work is being directed from behind the glass shielding window. Harwell November 1962
