Tarporley, Cheshire, is a small town near Chester. It followed its pioneering neighbour with a racecourse in 1622. It never achieved importance and was an unrecognised 'flapping' meeting most of its long life. This scene, delightfully remembered from an Edwardian childhood, includes a man running away with a bookmaker's satchel. The History of Horse Racing by Roger Longrigg, page 280.
