15th century Joust in which three knights fought 36 foreign challengers for a week. Manuscript illustration from the Chronicles of Froissart Harley (Chroniques de Froissart Harley), produced in Bruges. Froissart's Chronicle was written in French by Jean Froissart. It covers the years 1322 until 1400 and describes the lead up to and the progress of the first half of the Hundred Years War. Jean Froissart (1337-1405) was one of the most important of the chroniclers of medieval France. For centuries, Froissart's Chronicles have been recognized as the chief expression of the chivalric revival of fourteenth-century England and France. His history is also one of the most important sources for the first half of the Hundred Years' War. *** Local Caption ***
