Christmastime in Les Halles on a damp morning in winter on the day of a flower market looking through the entrance controlled by a gardien who is the tall man standing with his hand on the barrier. The gardien is controlling the crowds. Customers did not carry out huge quantities of flowers - it was left to the porters inside. This porter is carrying a loaded wooden box on each shoulder and narrowly misses a woman who ducks to avoid being hit. A customer has sent him off to take out the order into Rue Berger. The market traders did not carry out goods as they are doing the selling. Despite being in a covered market, the market people have stalls to enclose their space and are very conventional which helps afford some shelter to the delicate plants and flowers. Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
