Les Halles on a rainy damp night in Rue Rambuteau. Outside the entrance to Baltard Pavilion number 9 - the fish pavilion. Three fish porters with their two-wheeled wooden and metal hand trucks are taking a short break leaning on a lorry and waiting in the rain for their turn to unload the boxes of fish packed in ice from one of the many fish lorries lined up in a queue waiting to be unloaded. The men will stack the boxes on their trolleys and take them into the Baltard pavilion. They are wearing rubber boots. Photographer Harold Chapman recalls that the men were grinning with amusement, having discovered him trying to take their picture in the rain. Les Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
