View from a cafe window overlooking the Madeleine Church, Paris, Ile-de-France. There was a campaign to prevent the spread of alcoholism that licences were not given to cafes near churches. This cafe in the Place de la Madeleine is clearly promoting its wine with a cheeky poster of a thin wine waiter holding two bottles of wine painted on a panel in the window showing potential customers that it sells alcohol. This would be in defiance of any change to the licensing law which sought to prevent the sale of alcohol near churches. 8e arrondissement, Paris, France, circa 1960.
