Lampa; Peru; tomb of Enrique Torres Bel髇; detail of skulls in window with offerings left for good luck. The skulls were removed by order of the Archbishop of Puno in 2010. The tomb of the wealthy local politician Bel髇 was constructed in the 1960s as a large silo under the parish church. The skeletons lining its walls are those of colonial Spaniards; Bel髇 traced his ancestry to them; and the church allowed a dispensation to exhume them for use in the tomb. Bel髇's wife is buried with him in the tomb. Photo; 2009.
