Ottobeuren; Germany; shrine in altar holding St. Benedictus. The former Benedictine monastery acquired as relics the skeletons of four presumed martyrs from the Roman Catacombs which were articulated; dress; and put on display. English nuns living on the continent are credited with the decoration. Two others were acquired; but simply put in caskets instead of being displayed. The relic was probably of indeterminate identity; and named Benedictus in honor of St. Benedict; patron of the order of which the monks were members. Photo 2012.
